Relocation update and Service redesign

Posted on August 7th, 2021

Dear Patients,

We wanted to inform you of some impending changes at the practice which have been enabled by our relocation.  We intended to inform everyone of our plans closer to the time, but in view of our patient survey results, which were disappointing, we thought now was a good opportunity.

  1. Relocation- We have given a provisional date of 30th October to Oldham CCG.  We will shortly post further information regarding the logistics of the move.
  2. The bigger and better facilities and will enable us to restructure our staffing to be more responsive at busier times.  Some of these improvements have already been implemented which will result in more staff being able to answer phones in the morning and deal with queries during the day.
  3. As our current telephone system contract is due to end in October, we hope to have a new and better telephone system in place ready for our relocation.  Although this is being finalised, we hope to have functions such as more lines and call queuing to make it easier for patients to get through and call recording to improve the quality of our service.
  4. Our new Practice Manager, Sheri Ludden, is due to start at the practice on 16th August.  We hope Sheri will bring a new vigour and drive to the practice over the coming years.
  5. More appointments available- Although our appointment levels are back to pre pandemic levels, over the past year appointment availability has been affected at times due to, for example, the focus on vaccination, helping with test and trace, providing additional capacity to NHS 111 and staff isolation to name a few.  Please note, we have been expected to perform these additional duties on top of our existing responsibilities in providing a day to day GP service, with little additional funding.  This has put a heavy strain on our staff.  However as these additional responsibilities reduce, we will be able to return our sole focus into providing our usual service.
  6. Additional Staff- We currently have access to First contact physios who can give advice with regards to any musculoskeletal problems patients may be suffering, without having to be referred by a GP.  Just ask at reception who will book you in.  We also have access to Social prescribers who can assist pts with non clinical issues such as social support, benefits and housing.  Speak to a member of staff for further details.  We also hope to have access to practice pharmacists soon who will be able to assist with any medication queries.

This has been the most challenging period we have ever encountered.  All of our staff bear the scars of what we have had to deal with in continuing to provide a service in the midst of so much fear and uncertainty.  We thank you for bearing with us hope you will continue to support us while we push through the next few months which will undoubtedly bring further challenges.
